Ball State Women’s Golf struggles to keep scores low at Fall MAC Preview.

Ball State Women’s Golf finished in 10th place against the top Mid-American Conference competitors at the Fall MAC Preview in Noblesville, Indiana. 

Although the Cardinals finished in 10th place, the team got a taste of what their MAC Championship competition. The next time the Cardinals will be back at the Purgatory Golf Course will be in April for the MAC Championship. 

“It is always big to compete against seven other MAC schools,” head coach Katherine Mowat said. “We won’t be the same team come [April], and I know we will put up a really good fight in this conference.”

Sophomore Emily Knouff lead the Cardinals by going seven over par after the first two rounds of play on Sunday. Knouff posted a 75 and 76 to kick off the tournament. Also contributing to the Cardinals 42 over par performance on day one was junior Manon Tounalom (+8), sophomore Liz Kim (+9), freshman Morgan Lewis (+18) and freshman Ja Santadusit (+24). Also competing as an individual was freshman Hadley Moritz (+29). 

Dominating the field of play on Sunday were Toledo (-2) and Xavier (-1). Following far behind them were the MAC teams of Central Michigan (+18) and Akron (+18). 

The Cardinals rose to 68 over par to finish the tournament on Monday. Tounalom stepped up and matched Knouff to lead the Cardinals to give them at 10th place finish. The duo finished 11 over par and both tied for 15th place overall. 

“It was a tough course and it was very windy,” said Tounalom. “The course wasn’t in great shape, but I did well.”

Also contributing to the Cardinals’ card were Kim (+21), Lewis (+25), and Santadusit (+36). Moritz finished 36 over par as an individual.
