After placing sixth at the Chatham Hills Collegiate, Ball State Men’s Golf will participate in the Muskies Classic taking place Oct. 22 and 23 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The tournament will be the last one of the fall season for the Cardinals.
“We want to take some of the momentum we’ve been building lately into the offseason,” head coach Mike Fleck said. “Our goal is to finish on a very high note.”
One player who has been significantly impressive this season for the Cardinals is redshirt sophomore Keegan Bronnenberg. Bronnenberg practiced with the team during the 2017-18 season. However, he was forced to sit out on matchplay because of transferring from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne after the fall semester of his freshman year.
“When I transferred, I didn’t get released from [Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne] so I had to sit out the spring of my freshman year and the fall of my sophomore year,” Bronnenberg said. “It’s been definitely good to play this year by knowing that my hard work and patience from the past year and a half has paid off. I know I’ve been helping the team.”
Despite being relatively inexperienced to the college golf scene prior to this season, Bronnenberg’s first season at Ball State has been nothing but strong. In his season debut at last month’s Golfweek Conference Challenge, he posted a 3-under-69 and tied for seventh at the Firestone Invitational earlier this month.
At last weekend’s Chatham Hills Collegiate, Bronnenberg finished 1 under par and posted a total score of 215.
Although Bronnenberg has been tremendous all-around on the Cardinals, he is still continuing to develop his overall style of putting. Heading into the Muskies Classic, Bronnenberg is simply aiming to hit the ball well and lead the Cardinals to success.
“Hopefully my ball striking continues to be pretty consistent and solid,” Bronnenberg said. “That’s basically what it all comes down to for me.”
Regardless of Bronnenberg’s goals, Fleck has been tremendously happy with his efforts and constant determination while on the green.
“I think he’s done a great job on the golf course,” Fleck said. “He’s played extremely well.”
