Ball State Men’s Golf finished in 12th place among 16 schools in the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Cardinals were scheduled to finish the 54-hole tournament Tuesday. However, inclement weather forced cancellation of the final round, making Monday’s standings final.

“We got a few quality rounds, but we battled some inconsistencies,” head coach Mike Fleck said. “It would have been great to play today and put ourselves back in the top 10, but unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t allow it.”

The invitational, which was the Cardinals’ first of the season, saw a solid performance by redshirt sophomore Keegan Bronnenberg on Sunday. Bronnenberg shot a 3-under-par 69 and birdied four straight holes in his Ball State debut, leading the Cardinals to a combined score of 293 on the day.

“It was a good experience to get my first tournament out of the way, and now I just want to play more golf,” Bronnenberg said.

Monday saw the Cardinals take a slight drop in the standings to 12th before Tuesday’s cancellation. However, there was a strong showing from senior Timothy Wiseman, who shot a 1-under-par 71. The Cardinals finished with a total score of 590. Wiseman led the way individually at 1-over-par for a tie at 26th.

As the lone senior on the team, Wiseman admits that although he is satisfied with his overall results, he is continuing to strive for improvement with four more tournaments coming up throughout the next month.

“I made a couple mistakes that kept me from being in a better position,” Wiseman said. “I want to be a little more consistent and just keep hitting the ball better.”

The Cardinals will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 23 in the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
