In its second game of the weekend, Ball State Field Hockey (0-4, 0-0 MAC) dropped their fourth straight match of the season to Iowa (3-1, 0-0 Big 10), 7-1.

The Hawkeyes dominated the entire game. Sophie Sutherland had a hat trick in the first half for the Hawkeyes. Makenna Grewe, Isabella Solaroli, and Ryley Miller scored one goal each. The Hawkeyes accumulated 15 shots and seven corner shots at half.

The Cardinals scored their first goal of the season in Sunday's matchup against Dartmouth and netted their second of the season in the first half against Iowa. Redshirt sophomore Sierra Jefferson scored a goal after Iowa scored their sixth goal of the game.

After a lightning delay, the Cardinals were able to fix mistakes made in the first half and allowed the Hawkeyes to score only once more, but the Cardinals could not score one of their own. Iowa had 10 shots and two corner shots in the second half. Goalkeeper Grace Chavez recorded a season high 13 saves.

“I think we have some tuning to do on our set pieces on both ends,” Head coach Stephanie Bernthal said. “I liked the unified effort from the team today and the ability to make adjustments. Which is a great sign, we want them to be able to play different ways.”

The Cardinals will head back on the road next weekend to take on Ohio State and Lehigh.
