Splitting a doubleheader yesterday, Ball State softball (20-10, 2-1 MAC) finished out its weekend series against Bowling Green (17-12, 1-2 MAC) with a 12-0 win. Junior Aeshia Miles proved to be clutch once again, allowing four hits over the course of the game and striking out three along the way.

“Aeshia has just been a stud this season,” head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett said. “It’s amazing how her performance on the mound has [helped] the batters as well. She shuts down the opposition and relieves a lot of stress off of our batters. She is fearless and has a huge effect on both sides of the ball.”

While Miles held things down on the defensive side of the game, the bats came alive for the Cardinals. Senior Maddy Labrador continued to stay hot, hitting two home runs in the game and bringing in a combined seven runs on the day. Sophomore Janae Hogg also slammed one over the fence to kick off the game.

“The girls did a great job of sticking to the process today,” Bartlett said. “They did a better job of attacking the strikes and didn’t expand the zone like they did yesterday.”

The Cardinals played a game of redemption, shutting down sophomore Brooke Parker, who stunned the Cardinals' offense yesterday in the team's loss. Parker allowed six runs on five hits in the single inning she pitched. The Cardinals also faced the Falcons' No. 2 and 3 pitchers in the win.

“We put up six runs against the Falcons' top pitchers, and I think that was a great adjustment from yesterday,” Bartlett said. “Our batters had to deal with difficult conditions in 25 mph winds and colder temperature, so I’m proud of them for making that adjustment.”

The Cardinals picked up their 20th win of the season and moved one game above .500 in the early conference season. Ball State will face Akron next weekend in a three-game series. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
