Volleyball falls to No. 16 Michigan at Colorado State

Ball State women’s volleyball finished its weekend at the Colorado State University Tournament on Sunday challenging bid No. 16 Michigan. The Cardinals lost in four sets. Briana Hale, DN File

Ball State women’s volleyball finished its weekend at the Colorado State University Tournament on Sunday challenging bid No. 16 Michigan, ultimately losing in four sets (25-17, 20-25, 11-25, 18-25).

The Cardinals (6-4) started off strong in the first set, with a solo block set point finish from junior outside hitter Ellie Dunn. Redshirt junior middle hitter/opposite Avery Devoe led with four kills in the first set, totaling for eight with a .467 (8-1-15) attack percentage.

Michigan (7-2) came back in the second set, with five kills a piece from Adeja Lambert and Sydney Wetterstrom. The Wolverines led in total kills with 60, compared to the Cardinals 39. Overall, Michigan recorded a .245 (60-26-139) to .189 (39-16-126) attacking advantage in the match, while also out-digging Ball State’s defense 64 to 47.  

Leading in kills for the Cardinals were junior middle hitter Emily Holland with 10, and junior outside hitter/opposite Brooklyn Goodsel with nine. 

The Cardinals will return home to play the University of Evansville at 7 p.m. this Thursday in Worthen Arena.
