Women's volleyball defeats Indiana State in straight sets

At Saturday's double-header at the Indiana Invitational, the Ball State women's volleyball squad recorded its first two wins of the season in a 3-0 victory over Indiana State and a 3-1 win over DePaul.

Junior outside hitter Brooklyn Goodsel recorded 12 kills for the Cardinals, while junior outside hitter Ellie Dunn and sophomore Sydnee Vanbeek earned 10 kills a piece against ISU.

Ball State rolled its way through the first set, taking it 25-19, and the Cardinals won the second set 25-21. In the third set the Sycamores rallied from 24-21 down to tie the set, but the Cardinals scored two straight points soon afterward to take the set, and the game, 27-25.

The Cardinals had 48 digs compared to just 36 for Indiana State and recorded 46 assists while the Sycamores notched 33.

Sophomore setter Amber Seaman led the way for the Cardinals in assists with 38 and in digs with 15. Sophomore defensive specialist Kate Avila added 14 digs.

Indiana State was led by Lindsey Wilkins with 9 kills and Laura Gross led the Sycamores in aces, blocks and digs. Rachel Griffin added 28 assists.

Ball State battles Navy on Friday at 7 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
