In preparation for the 2018 season, Ball State softball has announced the addition of two new assistants to round out head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett's staff.

Mitch Roberts comes to Ball State after serving as a graduate assistant for the University of Washington in 2017. The Huskies finished with 50 wins a season ago and made it to the NCAA College World Series in Oklahoma City. Roberts also played collegiate baseball for a pair of schools.

"After being part of a national championship contending program at Washington, Mitch knows what it takes to reach the pinnacle of our sport," Bartlett said to Ball State Athletics. "He has a very clear vision of what it takes to win big games at this level and shows great promise in the coaching profession."

Rachel Houck comes on as the other assistant coach for the Cardinals. Houck finished her last season playing for Ball State a season ago, leading the team by batting .319.

"Rachel was a natural choice to add to the staff upon graduation," Bartlett said to Ball State Athletics. "While we are going to miss her greatly on the field, her work ethic is unmatched and she is extremely loyal to Ball State softball. I have no doubt she will have a tremendous career as a coach as well."

The Cardinals finished 30-28 a season ago, posting a 10-2 record at home and were 14-10 against Mid-American Conference opponents.

Ball State has not released the schedule for the 2018 season.
