After two weeks at home, Ball State women's tennis are on the road this weekend as they travel to Ohio to face Cincinnati on Sunday.

The Cardinals have faced varied opposition at the Northwest YMCA recently and have come through with three wins, giving them an overall record of 5-1. But the most recent win against Wright State saw them lose all their doubles matches. The team were visibly disappointed with this even after their singles victories.

Head coach Max Norris said there is no cause for concern just yet.

“Wright State played well in doubles but we were not happy with it,” Norris said. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with our doubles, I think we have great doubles. I think we have a lot of good combinations. I just think we came out flat and the other team came out a lot better and they stayed better and sometimes that happens in a doubles match."

With a record of 2-2, the Bearcats have had an indifferent start to the season. But Norris described the Cincinnati as one those teams who always seem to up their game when Ball State are in their sights which he considers to be a “good” thing.

“We’re going to have some tough matches but I think that at the same time, it’s a very exciting opportunity for us to play against a team who we know and the know us,” Norris said. “I think if we have the right mindset, then we should feel happy with whatever happens, win or lose. That’s kind of how we treat every match.”

Cardinal sophomore Audrey Berger in particularly is looking forward to this weekend’s match. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Berger grew up playing with a player now serving the Bearcats. Developing as young tennis players, Berger could never notch up a win against her, however, many times she would try during a practice session. It was only during their meeting last spring where Berger finally banished her demons and beat her foe. Replicating that result is clearly a personal target of hers.

“Cincinnati, they’re a good team," Berger said. "They’re loud just like us. They’re competitive just like us. I’m really excited for the match because I’m not the biggest fan of Cincinnati so I’ve decided to get in their face and show them that we’re here to stay.”

The match begins at 2 p.m.
