Call named 1st team All-American

Junior right fielder Alex Call has another award to add to his résumé after he was named the Louisville Slugger All-American first team, announced by Collegiate Baseball June 2. 

Call’s list of 2016 awards include Mid-American Conference Player of the Yearthe MAC Medal of Excellence, first team All-MAC, MAC All-Defensive team, CoSIDA Academic All-District and CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Primarily batting leadoff for the Cardinals, Call led the MAC with 24 doubles, six triples, a .667 slugging percentage and 67 runs.

His .358 batting average and .443 on-base percentage were both top five in the MAC, and he finished tied for third in the conference with 13 home runs and fourth with 17 steals.

Call is the fifth Cardinal to be named first team All-American and the first since Kolbrin Vitek in 2010. Before Vitek, Brad Snyder (2003), Bryan Bullington (2002) and Thomas Howard (1996) also earned first-team All-American honors.
