Errors cost the Cardinals as softball drops its 1st game to Buffalo

The only two runs allowed by Ball State (17-21, 3-6 MAC) in its loss to Buffalo (10-24, 4-3 MAC) April 8 were unearned.

With the score tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning, an error by freshman third baseman Madeline Porter put Buffalo freshman Danielle Lallos on first.

Lallos stole second and then scored on Porter’s second error the inning, a throwing error that put Buffalo junior Lauren Gambone on base. Freshman Adriana Lis entered the game for Gambone as a pinch runner and was knocked in by junior Savanna Norcio to give Buffalo the 2-0 lead.

Senior right-handed pitcher Nicole Steinbach was credited with the loss and is now 13-10 on the year with a 3.30 ERA. In six innings against Buffalo, she allowed two unearned runs (zero earned), struck out three batters and allowed four hits and walked five batters.

At the plate, the Cardinals were limited to three hits by Buffalo sophomore right-handed pitcher Charlotte Miller, who struck out five in the complete-game shutout.

The second half of the doubleheader was delayed after three innings and will resume April 9 with Ball State trailing 10-2. The third and final game of the series will begin directly after.
